What to expect
Cross the causeway into Mannar Island and explore at your own pace. The island brings together fishing villages, lagoons, palmyrah palms and long stretches of coast, with Mannar town at its eastern end.
Make a half-day or full-day outing of it, combining the fort and baobab with the quieter roads towards Talaimannar. The map marks the causeway gateway; allow extra driving time for each island stop.
