What to expect
The wetlands around Mannar and Vankalai are an important refuge for waterbirds. Lagoons, shallow water and tidal flats create feeding and resting places for many resident and migratory species.
Bring binoculars, keep your distance from wildlife and take your time along permitted viewing areas. Sightings change with the season, tide and water levels; the map uses a visitor access point rather than the whole wetland boundary.
