What to expect
Northwest of Anuradhapura, Thanthirimale is a longer inland excursion from Nanattan. This Buddhist pilgrimage site is known for its Bodhi tree and Buddha figures carved into the rock.
Set aside time to explore quietly and follow the temple's guidance. Much of the visit is outdoors, so a morning start makes the walk more comfortable.
